Project description
CONCERTOUR is a Coordination and Support Action project which addresses the call FP7-TPT-2007-RTD-1, action TPT.2007.3 "Transport contribution to improve competitiveness of European tourism". It starts from the assumption that tourism is a key driver of economic growth and development and therefore has an essential role to play in making the European Union a more competitive and dynamic economy.
Transport is one of the many economic activities tourism cross-cuts with. Adequate supply of transport may strongly contribute to boosting all segments of the European tourism market and the competitiveness of European tourism industry in general. That is why the CONCERTOUR project considers transport as a lever - and not a barrier - to the sustainable growth of the European economy.
Consequently, the project will ultimately identify policy-driven solutions which aim to remove obstacles or create conditions for the provision of value-added transport services. These solutions will take into consideration relevant key factors: the attractiveness of the tourist destinations, the improvement of socio-economic benefits and the reduction of adverse environmental and social impacts. Special attention will be paid to guaranteeing fair and equal access to tourism for all.
Stages of the project
So as to establish these solutions, the Consortium of the 7 Concertour Partners will put various actions in place. Firstly, a state-of–the-art review will be carried out to determine and analyse the EU transport and tourism supply. Secondly, the demand side will be analysed, particular attention being paid to tourists, their segmentation and emerging needs. Finally, the two above-mentioned studies and a selection of best ‘transport and tourism mobility’ practices will be thoroughly examined in order to establish concrete concepts and solutions.
The CONCERTOUR Community stakeholders will be continuously involved at all stages of the project. The core Community group will contribute to the three project workshops while the Community as a whole will participate in the two public conferences, and the CONCERTOUR Forum will be the platform for regularly interaction.
Outputs
The tangible outputs of the project are the two main CONCERTOUR tools – the Handbook and the Action Plan. The Handbook is a practical and dynamic tool aimed at identifying all possible solutions and available best practices which bridge the transport supply with the tourism demand and supply. The Action Plan will be based on this document and will describe strategic measures to be recommended to EC decision makers, for instance tax systems, infrastructure development or monitoring systems and so on.
